Hi, my husband is taking 25mg steroid and 20mg methotrexate for vasculitis, anca associated PR3, he is improving well but I have noticed a very strong odour coming from him, he showers daily but I can detect this odour it s a very heavy putty like smell, musty, could it be the medication that s causing this odour?
Some medications can cause excessive sweating, which can lead to changes in body odor in some people.Methotrexate is an immuno-suppressant which reduces your body immunity which can cause increase infections and body odor. Antiperspirants containing aluminium-based compounds that temporarily block sweat pores, thereby reducing the amount of perspiration that reaches your skin. Maintenance of personal hygiene is also essential.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
