Can Steroids Be Used To Treat Sudden Occurrence Of Rashes?

my 17 month old son has had a rash that starts on his face and underarms then spreads all over his body over a period of 3 hours. These symptoms started 4 days ago and the doctor said it could be an allergic reaction or a viral reaction. i was told to give him claratyne which i did and it seem to clear up until i gave gave him breakfast then rash slowly comes back. he has Celerac baby cereal for breakfast. the list of ingredients seems to be the same as most brands but its very coincidental that the rash comes after eating breakfast, and started to occur since trying that brand. i have been given a perscription for steriods but am hesitant to give such strong medication if the cause can be sourced and avioded. should i give the medication or should i try a different cereal first? hes very healthy otherwise.
