Can Stopped Intake Of Birth Control Pills Cause Delayed Periods?

I haven't been in any sexual relations since January 2014. I started my birth control bills February or March 2014. I stopped taking it in July or August of 2014. Had one day of spotting in September. I've gone all of October, November, and December without a period. Could stopping the pills cause my period to delay? Can I still get pregnant without a period? I have an appointment with a Gynocologist at the end of this month. But can't stop worrying that something serious is going on. Thank you.
