Can Stress Cause Palpitations And Tachycardia In An Enlarged Heart?

I ve had anxiety problems and palpitations for many years. 20 years ago (i was 37) I had a chest xray and the result said I had an enlarged heart. I ve had episodes of tachycardia in the 140-160 s and in the er 2 years ago they said I had afib because I didn t responde to 2 doses of adenosine. previous visits i ve been given iv verapamil which worked. I had a cardiac ultra sound and stress test 3 years ago which didn t show anything and more recently 2 months ago and it said the right side of my heart was enlarged. the cardiologist i saw had me have a vq scan saying i probably have pulmonary hypertension. the results came back showing no clots. any suggestions I won t have a cardiac cath done. He s just got me so upset, I don t know whats wrong. I really believe my tachycardia and palpitations are due to stress.

Hi,

Anxiety, depression can cause the tachycardia for sure, but it may not be the cause of the enlarged heart. Enlarged heart can happen in case of long standing untreated hypertension and cardiac myopathy.

But these are the condition which have very obvious symptoms and demands the medical attention. In my opinion, it is better to have the second cardiac opinion and get done the cardiac evaluation test again.

Hope I have answered your query.
