Can Strokes Cause Brain Death?
A friend had a stroke Friday morning and was talking and seem like he would be okay. Then Saturday morning he took a turn for the worse and the doctors say they are not sure if his first stroke worsened or he had another stroke. Anyway, now they say it affected his brain stem and he is brain dead. They placed him down in the hospice center and said they are doing what it takes to keep him comfortable. They have the Oxygen on him.. but is not giving him liquids. That sounds cruel to me.. Sounds to me like he is starving to death. All his organs at this point are functional. Is that normal?

Massive strokes involving posterior circulation especially brain stem causes brain death.
Ones which are occurring very suddenly or acutely are catastrophic.
Mostly thrombosis embolic strokes.
If brain death is confirmed either clinically or by EEG then treating aggressively is of no use.
Brain death in a young with rest all other organs functioning well is a best suitable candidate for organ donation for who are in needy.
