Can Sugar In Cough Drops Cause Oral Thrush On Back Of Tongue?
I have had a cough for a little over 2 weeks, It's mostly at night when I am going to sleep. I have been eating cough drops constantly for the past few days sand even falling asleep eating them. I noticed that I'm getting oral thrash on the back of my tongue and roof of my mouth. Is this possibly caused by the sugar in the cough drops? I have never had a mouth infection before so I don't know where this is coming from.
1. Diabetes mellitus is to be ruled out by doing fasting blood sugar level 2. Gastroesophageal reflux -it's more likely especially if associated with cough
It's unlikely to be due to sugar in the cough syrup
Hello,, I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. In my opinion it is not due to cough drops but I can tell you that people you get immunocompromised will get such type of infections it is mostly due to candida so I suggest you to take antifungals drugs. You can also take metronidazole oral ointment for this.I suggest you to have a chest xray to rule out the lung pathology. Hope this answers your query. Thank you.
