Can Taking Clarithromycin And Lansoprazole Be Safe For Helicobacter Pylori?

Hi,

I started taking medication for treatment of Helicobacter Pylori today. About half an hour after taking Clarithromycin and Lansoprazole I developed a rapid heartbeat (116 beats per min). Fifteen minutes later I vomited my breakfast. My heart rate has calmed down now. Just wondering if this is a normal reaction?

Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The drug-induced gastritis is responsible for the vomiting. The heartbeat may be related to clarithromycin component of the therapy.

* My guidelines at present

- get prescription of antiemetic as Ondansetron or domperidone with your doctor, to be consumed on an empty stomach

- continue H.Pylori medications as per the dosage guidelines
- follow strict dietary measures to avoid all spices, non-veg, junk foods
- avoid stress, anxiety
- manage sound sleep

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
