Can Taking Dulcolax Along With Golytely Be Safe During Colonoscopy?
Hi, I am going to prepare for a colonoscopy using GoLytely, I am also asked to take 2 tablets of Ducolax without any instructions when to take them. On line I read that sodium bicarbonate (in GoLytely) may interfere with Ducolax. Any advice? (except call your doctor) Regards, Egon
** 1. Since the said interaction is 'moderately' clinically significant [which means the said combination is usually used under special circumstances [colonoscopy] thus it won't be any major drug-drug interaction.
PS. it is calcium carbonate present in antacids which interfere with dulcolax, since by increasing gastric pH, they may reduce the resistance of the enteric coating of bisacodyl tablets, resulting in earlier release of bisacodyl and gastric irritation and dyspepsia.
2. After taking dulcolax, after you have passed stool then take golytely.
