Can Taking Hydrochlorothiazide As A Combination Drug With Losartan Result In Constipation?

Hi - I recently saw my doctor and had a high bloodpressure reading. I am on Losartan already, but, he said I also needed to take Hydroclorothiazid as a combination drug. I also have Diverticulous and am worried that if I take a diauretic I will not have enough water in my body to effectively help my bowels to move efficiently. I do not want to have constipation as a result of takiing this second medicine. Will it cause me to have constipation?

Hello, Hydrochlorthiazide is combined with Losartan or any other antihypertensive drug in order to enhance the hypotensive effect. But the diuresis produced not very heavy to cause any appreciable water loss. It is generally very well tolerated, however in a few patients constipation may occur. The combination is given for better reduction of blood pressure. Thanks
