Can Taking Plavix Cause Increased Level Of ESR?

Can Plavix cause an increase in ESR? I am 56, 5 10 , 170lbs, very fit and low body fat. Just had rotator cuff surgery, reacted to pain pills, got some numbness in face (have had for a year, lack of sleep, issues stemming from murder of son and divorce, etc.). Dr. prescribed Plavix for possible TIA, CatScan and thyroid ultrasound showed 2 small bumps on thyroid, blook test shows ESR 50 vs normal range of 0-20. All other test normal or on border of normal range except lymphocyles which is 8 vs. normal range of 13-44.

Hi,

Plavix (clopidogrel) is an antiplatelet medication that works by preventing blood clots. It is not typically known to cause an increase in erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). However, ESR can be elevated in many conditions, including infections, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. Your elevated ESR may be related to your recent surgery, or to an underlying condition that needs to be further evaluated. It is important to discuss your test results and concerns with your doctor to determine the appropriate next steps.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
