Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Tamiflu Medication For Flu Cause Brownish Green Stool?
was diagnosed with the flu on Tuesday (103.3 temp for 42 year old). Taking tamiflu. 2 concerns 1. My stools are a funny brownish, green, oily, and gross? Could that be from the flu or medicine? 2. I have a cough. It started as a wet cough and my doctor was not concerned. Now it is more dry, but I thinkit is because I feel like I have a lump in my throat. (Expression, not real lump) Any feedback would help!
Tamiflu itself has the side effect of causing wheezing and even a cough productive of phlegm (this is aside from the infection). Regarding the second point of your question first, this vary well could be caused by the use of the Tamiflu itself, it is not a overly common side-effect but it does happen.
Regarding the change in your stool, I am not aware of Tamiflu being associated with a change of this type in your stool consistency or color. I even researched this and I still could not find this as a possible side effect. It certainly does not mean that is not possible, but at this point I would say that your bowel changes are caused by something else.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
