Can The Dye Used In Myelogram Procedure Cause Any Harm To Eyes?

I am considering surgery for spinal stenosis {laminectomy] and I had surgery for glaucoma in both eyes. I am supposed to get a myelogram and ct scan. I was wondering if the dye would have any affect on my eyes, I also have uveitis which I am keeping under control with prednisolone acetate.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There are reported instances of neurological disturbances following water soluble contrast dye used for myelogram procedure, but effect on eyes are not as such narrated. Keeping blood pressure and intra occular pressure under control during the procedure will surely help to avoid any obvious impact of the dye over eyes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
