Can The Ejection Fraction Of The Heart Be Improved?

I had an echocardiogram about a year ago and had an ejection fraction of 20 to 25. My old cardiologist was very concerned and told me it probably wouldn t get much better. I had a new echo done about a week ago and the ef was 40. Is that really possible? Can the results be wrong?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, sometimes temporarily ischemia or arrhythmia may cause low ejection fraction which may increase with passage of time once temporary cause is taken out. Drugs which improve ejection fraction by increasing cardiac contractility can be used as well. other options like pacemaker, etc., may be used too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
