Can The Eye Sore Be Treated With Application Of An Ointment?

The lower lid of my right eye became sore, reddish and swollen yesterday. After using warm compresses it was much better this morning, howeve I did go to the doctor. She gave me Erythromycin Opthalmic Ointment USP, 05% which I used about noon today. It has made my eye much worse, hurting, redder and swollen even spreading down into the "bag" under my eye red and swollen. Is it okay to stop using this ointment and, if so, is there anthing else I should do?
