Will Shaky Feeling And Palpitations Be Due To Meftal?
I ve been having fever since Thursday of last week and I was on Erythromycin 250 mg from Friday afternoon. This afternoon I saw another doctor and he had given me Meftal and have taken only one dose so far and I feel pretty shaky and seem to have palpitations. Is that common? Also I was throwing up first thing in the morning and in the night till yesterday but as of today throwing up during the day too. The doctor that I saw this afternoon claims that I am throwing up because of fever but I know that I do not have fever at all.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Shakiness and palpitations are not common side effects of Meftal, which is a brand name for mefenamic acid, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce pain and inflammation. However, Meftal can cause other side effects such as stomach upset, nausea, and vomiting.
Given that you are also experiencing vomiting, the shakiness and palpitations you are feeling may be related to dehydration or electrolyte imbalances caused by the vomiting. Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances can cause a range of symptoms, including dizziness, palpitations, and muscle weakness.
It is important to speak with your doctor about your symptoms, especially if they persist or worsen over time. They may recommend adjusting your medication or adding additional treatments to help manage your symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
