Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can The Medicine, Citalopram, Cause Torticollis And Twitching In Eyes?
I have had a twitching eye for five days and have just been diagnosed with torticollis, not hereditary though. I have also just stopped taking citalopram 10mg and I am now taking half s tablet every few days, hoping to stop completely soon. Is any of this Linked?
It is suggestive of citalopram discontinuation syndrome. Based on the history, you seem to have developed the symptoms due to the sudden discontinuation of the anti-depressant medication, citalopram. If you stop taking citalopram suddenly, it can cause 'discontinuation syndrome' characterized by anxiety, vertigo, dystonias (torticollis), tremors, fatigue and irritability. Therefore if you wish to stop taking citalopram, its dose should be gradually reduced over several weeks without any withdrawal symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
