I have been Dx with grade 1 esophogeal varicies, portal vein hypertension. I have had every test (ultra sounds, biopsys, blood work, & cultures) which show I do not have liver disease. I have never had a drug or alcohol problem but a number of hospital stays due to mastitis and bilateral hip surgery years apart which included strong medications which doubled with complications.
My question is could my Thyroid (Hypo) medication (Synthroid 1.0 mg) be a possible cause for this hypertension? My symptoms are extreme abd. pressure and bloating. When I exercise I experience uncomfortable pressure just below my ribs which creates concerns as well.
Hello dear, Sorry to learn about your bothersome symptoms. I do not think that synthroid is the cause of your hogh blood pressure. There are many other hormones that may be responsible for causing high blood pressure especially when it is resistant to 3 or more medications. So, a detailed clinical examination would be of help to decide whether a whole hormonal panel is needed or it is just an essential hypertension. Hope the information will help
