I have a thyroid nodule which was detected in 2007 after thyroid ultrasound. Left thyroid has a nodule size 4.6 cm and right thyroid has a nodule 1.2 cm. I had a biopsy on my left thyroid nodule and found it was follicular nodular hyperlplacia. After 4 years now the size of the nodule does not change considerably. I will be having a second biopsy after four years from the first biopsy and the second biopsy is scheduled January 2012. I am male now 50 years old. I am worried if I have thyroid cancer. I don't have any neck pain or any other related problems. Also I am worried that thyroid biopsy can make thyroid nodule again larger due to bleeding and bruising and inflammation. Could you please give me advise regarding these matters.
thyroid biopsy will not make thyroid nodule larger, in your Case no option we should do thyroid biopsy only because follicular nodular hyperplasia may turn into follicular carcinoma in some cases that can't be diagnosed with fnac so biopsy best in your case.
