Can Thyroid Repair Itself Without Medication?
I have been diagnosed by 3 different doctors with Hypo Thyroid beginning in 2006. My new dr. read my lab results to me today and said that my thyroid is fine now. Can a thyroid really repair itself? I had been on levoxyl .137 till 04/10 when finances made it impossible to refill the perscription. My lab numbers (done 3/23/11) are as follows:
TSH: 2.277, T4 7.7, Free T3 3.0, Free T4 0.89. Could you tell me if I am wrong in questioning this doctors diagnosis? Thanks

In most of the cases hypothyroidism is caused by Hashimoto thyroiditis that is an autoimmune chronic disease and treatment is long life.
So in your case the diagnosis should have been another one.
So you may consult with your treating physician and find out what has caused hypothyroidism and why is it recovered.
