Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
As per the doctor advice I am taking thyrox 50mcg medicine for thyroid at the morning if I did not take even one day there is a chance of stop baby heartbeat :(. Today I have taken in the morning after 20 min I vomited. I don t know whether the medicine is in stomach or not. Kindly advice... :(
Thyrox contains levothyroxine. Upon ingestion, it quickly gets dissolved in gastric juice and expelled into small intestine. Absorption of Thyrox occurs in small intestine. You have vomited after 20 minutes of ingestion, so it might be possible that some part of ingested Thyrox was vomited out. But we are not sure how much of ingested Thyrox was vomited out. It is also possible that ingested drug has been moved into small intestine and got absorbed. One day dose interruption does not affect long term effectiveness of Thyrox. So there is no need to take repeat dose on the same day. Take the next day dose as usual. Monitor adequate replacement by measuring serum TSH. TSH can take up to 4 months to normalize. TSH is measured 6–8 weeks after initiation of Thyrox and then annually once you are on a stable dose of levothyroxine. Dose is titrated as per serum TSH level. Be in touch with your endocrinologist for follow up. I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
