Can Thyroxine Cause Memory Loss And Lack Of Concentration?

I’ve been on thyroxine for an under-active thyroid for the last ten years and my meds haven’t changed much at all in that time (75mcg I think). I listened several times recently to a really excellent healing audio and since then my thyroid’s gone nuts. I feel like someone’s grabbing me by the throat (not painful, just pressure) and I only sleep for a couple of hours each night, I’m having memory/concentration problems and I think I’m losing weight.
I’ve also just realized the link between iodine and thyroid and started taking vitamins with iodine. Do you think this condition could have healed and I’m now getting too much thyroxine and enough iodine? Is it possible to stop taking the meds?

Hello,
I can understand your concern.
Usually the patient with underactive thyroid think that it is due to iodine deficiency. In fact in 90% of cases the underactive thyroid is caused by Hashimoto thyroiditis. Our body produces some antibodies that destroy the thyroid gland and despite you take the enough iodine with diet i, the destroyed thyroid gland can not use it to produce it's hormones (FT4 and Ft3)
At this point you have to take the hormone orally. That is why you take thyroxine.
If the Hashimoto thyroiditis is confirmed than you do not need to take iodine supplements.
Under active thyroid due to iodine deficiency in our days is very rare due to iodinated salt that we use.
