Can Tiredness And Muscular Pain Be A Result Of Having Suffered A Stroke?

had the first sizure stroke in 1988 when I was 14 years old. Despite under medication I was getting stroke every after 6 months. Later I took tab Zen Retard 400mg in 1997 prescribed by a neuro surgen. I had been taking that medicine till 2002. Then the dose was reduced to 200mg till 2005. Then the doctor asked me to stop the medicine. But 3 months after stopping the medicine, I had a stoke again. The doctor asked me continue the same 200mg medicine again. In 2008 I stopped the medicine, But 3 months later I had a stroke again. The EEG report says I have no problem in the functioning of my brain. The doctor prescribed me Lonazep 2mg. I had been taking the medicine, but in Jan 2010 I had a stroke, ofcorse very mild in nature, I did not make any noise, I was unconscious for 5 minutes or so and the aftermath of the stroke was not so tiring as it used to be earlier. I contacted the doctor over phone, I was suggested to take additional 1mg of Lonazep in the morning. I learned Lonazep has got very bad side effects even I feel very tired and heavy muscular pain in the morning when I getup in the morning. If I skip the medicine some day then I feel fresh in the morning. Now I got married. Please advice what medicine should I take. Consuming so much of medicines over the years will have any problem in my married life, I mean to my spouse or to the children in future. Because of this I have not yet planned for the child as of yet. Kindly advice me what should I do? can I be fully cured? I emphasize that I get stroke only when I get up from sleep all of sudden

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM! I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

I think that the episodes that you call "troke" are just epileptic seizures. Zen Retard is an antiepileptic drug. Lonazep too.

Lonazep ( Clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine, and as such, it induces muscular relaxation. This effect may be related to the tiredness feeling.

I would recommend you to perform a brain MRI to exclude a possible brain lesion responsible for your seizures. If such lesion was found, a neurological evaluation would be necessary to consider the possibility of brain surgery in reducing the frequency of your seizures.

Regarding the treatmet, I would recommend to switch into other medications like Lamotrigine. It is the only safe drug when trying to conceive a baby, and is effective in these types of seizures. Both Zen Retard and Lonazep are not safe in a possible pregnancy.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
