Can Toenail Fungus Cause White Blood Cell Count To Be High?

Can toenail fungus cause white blood cell count to be high? I have had the nail fungus for years, have tried OTC medications as well as natural to no avail. I have been referred to a hematologist for 16.8 WBC and am wondering if I should mention the nail fungus. Normally try to keep it hidden.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Any infection whether viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic can cause an elevation in white blood cells.

You should mention the nail fungus, it would need treatment.

Treatment would involve oral treatment with an antifungal for 6 weeks to 3 months because there is a slow response to treatment.

The most commonly used oral antifungals are:terbinafine and itraconazole.

I hope this helps
