Can Tonsillitis Turn Into Glandular Fever?

When does tonsillitus become glandular fever? My 17yr old son has swollen ulcerated tonsillis, temp, aches, vomited last night, lower back pain. Today Px penicillin. The tonsills look just a little less swollen than mine did when I was diagnosed with glandular fever aged 35.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain inflammation of tonsils along with fever, vomiting and body aches can be due to causes like Glandular fever while similar symptoms can be seen in case of severe upper respiratory tract infection, influenza etc..
But all these are viral infections and resolves only when the virus completes its cycle in human body..
They do not respond to antibiotics like Penicillin as antibiotics can treat only bacterial infection..
Nothing to worry as the symptoms are improving..
You can take symptomatic treatment like Acetaminophen for fever, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen,Ondensarton for vomiting and also do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room..
Drink plenty of warm water and take sufficient rest..
