good morning, my name is Corinne ive just been told an elderly gent of97 passed away yesterday. His daughter told me he had too much lithium in his body. Ive never heard of this and he was mentally sound and full faculties one month ago when he was admitted to nursing home. I have never heard of this and im looking to understand why hes has gone. hello user , Lithium is a mood stabliser drug , which is very commonly used in the field of psychiatry . commonly in therapeutic dosages and going by the criteria for patient selection and administration , it does not cause much risk apart from common side effects - however in certain cases like taking overdose , or having serious dehydration or renal diseases - it can cause life threatening toxicity, mainly by neurotoxicity- , which however is not fatal in every cases if early intervention is provided , best given in icu setting . hope i answered your query
