Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Toothpaste That Got Into The Eyes Cause Harm To Intraocular Lenses?
I accidentally got toothpaste in my eye.. I rinsed it with water and used saline to flush it all out. After that I put on the Systane eyedrops. My eye still bothers me and it s red. I forgot to mention, I underwent refractive surgery some months ago, meaning I have intraocular lenses inside my eyes. Will the toothpaste that got in my eye have a worse effect because of it? Should I be concerned?
If toothpaste got in your eyes, your eyes would be irritated, but not seriously. Wipe most toothpaste off with clean tissue or soft towel and rinse eyes. Use cotton swab with sterile saline gently and carefully clean the residual toothpaste. After that, clean your eyes thoroughly and apply eye drops.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
