Can Urine Drug Test Differentiate Between Oxycodone And Hydrocodone?
Hi, can a urine drug test from Dr. Office tell difference between oxycodone and bhydrocodone, my sister is worried. She picked up her script at Dr office and they hit her with a urine cup. I know they do send specimens to quest lab. How do u know what panel they r using?
Hi I did review your concern. Generally it is difficult to differentiate between these 2 but both of them have different metabolites in form of hydromorphone and oxymorphone that is formed in liver and excreted by kidney. Both the medications if taken in excess are not good for health as they belong to opiod class and can cause dependence and addiction. The general urine test applied can differentiate between both these products if it uses a massspectrometry based test. if it uses an enzyme assay test it may not be able to differentiate between the the two.
I hope this helps. wish you all the best. thank you for choosing healthcaremagic.
Hydrocodone and oxycodone are metabolized in liver and they form different metabolites and are excreted in urine. if they are using mass spectrometry based test they can differentiate between metabolites of these 2 drugs based on molecular weight.
If they use assay based test then it is very difficult to differentiate between the two medications as they are chemically quite same and would give similiar reactions.
I hope this helps. wish you all the best. thank you for choosing healthcaremagic.
