Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Uterine Cancer Be Detected By An Endometrial Biopsy?
I received Pap smear results that stated there were atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance. I had a colposcopy and the doctor saw nothing of concern. She did an endometrial biopsy which came back normal. I m having a SIS tomorrow morning to try and find where the glandular cells are coming from. I was exposed to DES two times. I had an ablation 13 years ago. Recently my periods have become increasingly heaving and longer. Obviously, I am worried. Can you have cancer of the uterus even with a normal biopsy? What can I expect to find out during the SIS?
Presence of atypical glandular cells in pap smear needs to be investigated by endometrial and cervical biopsy. Normal an endometrial biopsy does not rule out endometrial cancer completely. I suggest you get a pelvic ultrasound along with repeat endometrial and cervical biopsy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
