Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Since last 4 -5 years, I am finding it increasingly difficult to remember.Like when I set a meeting and forget to attend meeting.. I find it difficult to remember the mobile numbers, can t remember faces and their names Or some times I don t find correct words when talking. I forget the thing which I have to do in the same day.. in the blood report there B12 deficiency, 50% less than min level required.
1. Vit. B12 is a common cause of short term memory loss [as stated in your history] since Vit. B12 deficiency causes demyelination of nerve fibres resulting in lysis, death and removal of the nerve fibre resulting in sensory, motor and psychic [dementia] disturbances
2. Lack of vitamin B12 also causes inhibition of DNs synthesis,as a result there is inhibition of cell division and the cells become bigger than normal resulting in megaloblastic anemia.
3. Vitamin B12 is only present in meat, fish and dairy products and is required in very small amount in body thus if there is 50% deficiency thus look for any other cause of the deficiency like malabsorption syndrome or ask for hematological report to check with pernicious anemia.
