Hi, 2 months ago I was diagnosed with endometriosis and I was preparing for surgery when I got pregnant. I am 5 weeks now and I noticed that in the last days my stool is very dark. I have been constipated only for one day. At 4 weeks pregnant I started taking prenatal vitamins that have iron too, is this the reason? Or it has something to do with endometriosis? I was experiencing colon pain due to endo. Thank you
Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. Well, passing dark stool has nothing to do with endometriosis. Endometriosis is purely to do with uterus and passing dark stools is got to do with large intestines. Yes, as you have rightly guessed, taking prenatal iron is the reason for dark stools. It also causes constipation. The pain you are experiencing is due to constipation. You need to take high fibre diet and drink plenty of water and fluids. You can consume more fruits, which would help to soften your stools and easy passage of it. Hope the information provided will be helpful. Take care and wish you all the best.
