Can Weaning Off From Haldol For Causing Tremors Be Done For Autistic Child?

Hello, I have a 20 year old Autistic son. He started taking Haldol 2mg once a day on January27,2014. Went to see Doctor on April 14,2014, and we increased Haldol to 2mg tablet in morning plus two tablets at bedtime, total of 6mg daily. Went for consult on May 27,2014 told Doctor my son was doing well with his behaviors, but i am noticing lots of side effects developing. Like sleeping all day and night, lots of muscle spasms, mild tremors, talking in his sleep,diarrhea, vomitting. He is currently on lithium 1800mg, Lexapro 40 mg, Trileptal 1 tsp 2x daily 300 mg/5 ml. I want to start taking him off Haldol starting tonight.I am worried he might have a seizure . Can I start by not giving him his bedtime dose?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The doses which you have mentioned for your child is way to high for all the drugs. All drugs can cause tremors. In my opinion you can taper down haldol gradually. You can further reduce the dose of other drugs also. Consult your doctor.
