Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can weight loss cause bradycardia? If a twelve year old has a resting heart of 41 is this cause of concern? This 12 year old has been eating up to 12 to 1400 calories a day and does cross country with her school. Is her cross country the cause of a low resting heart or her calorie intake of up to 1400 calories. Should I take her to emergency.
I see you are concerned about your daughter who has been on the cross country team and has a low heart rate. The low heart rate is a result of her exercise program. Athletes that are in very good shape and condition will have low resting heart rates. I would caution her though about eating enough calories while training. She should be consuming at least 2000-3000 calories during heavy exercise periods.
Hope I answered you question. Please contact us again with your medical questions and concerns.
