Can You Have Positive LEU And Negotiable Nitrates And Have A UTI?

My son is 12 years old. He has had 2 kidney transplants. I just checked his urine with a test Strip. He has burning when he pees. He is positive for LEU it s very purple..but, negative for nitrates. He has no fever. I hate to bring him in to the ER. Can you have positive LEU and negotiable Nitrates and have a UTI?

Hello,

Yes, he can have UTI with positive LEU and negotiable nitrites. Since your boy is a high risk for UTI and he also had 2 transplants in the future and such patients are at high risk for infections.

Your son should have undergone urine culture sensitivity for infection and its antibiotic susceptibility.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr SAMEEN BIN NAEEM, General & Family Physician
