Cervical Position Low, Soft And Dime Size Opening, Have Discharge. Had Miscarriages Been Off Birth Control. Negative HPT. Help

Hello, I have recently been checking my cervical postion for conceiving purposes and yesterday when I checked it was low, soft and on the left side near the opening there is a dime size lump/knot on my cervix that is very hard and it has no feeling. I felt around my cervix and the rest of it is smooth and soft. I have been having a discharge that is thicker than normal and has a pinkish tint to blood streaked. It hurts to have intercourse and I bleed afterwards and have cramping like the start of my period after sex. I have always have low back pain. I have irregular periods and have been off birth control for 3-4 months and my period is 2 days late with a negative hpt. I have had 2 vaginal child births and 2 miscarrages in the past. In 2007 I had abnormal pap smears and had to have a leep procedure done to remove 3 spots due to abnormal cells.I also have annual pap smears but I m not due for another one for 3 months. I am very concerned and was just curious if this is serious or not. I apprecitate any advice or input! Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your concern. Let me start of by saying that symptoms like a discharge, pinkish tint to blood colored, etc. are most probably signs of an infection.

Another fact from your query is the abnormal pap smear. It would have helped to add the results, but as you have not let me list the possibilities from your presentation:
-Nabothian cyst
-Other cysts
-Human papillomavirus (bleeds on touch, as mentioned by you, that it bleeds after intercourse)
-Cervical cancer (bleeds on touch, as mentioned by you, that it bleeds after intercourse)
and a few others.

I would kindly request you to repeat a pap smear, and also visit your doctor with the pap smear reports, which would be followed up by a physical examination, and if required a punch biopsy and a colposcopic examination.

I do not wish to alarm you in anyway, but it is best to go about this at the earliest, as I wish to rule out the worst. I would also recommend you to abstain from sexual intercourse in the meantime, till a diagnosis is made.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
