Chest Pain After Laparotomy, Family History Of Heart Disease. Do I Need To Be Further Checked Out?
I had a Laparotomy in Apr2012 followed by an ALIF in Apr2011. Since the laparotomy- I m slow to recover and have chest pain that stops me in my tracks ..............It scares me but the surgeon does not think it s any big deal. I m 50 and was a good athlete- Heart Disease Took all of my Grandparents. My Mom s Dad died at 61. Do I need to be checked out further??? Linda
Hi, Thanks for your query. Chest pain post-laparotomy can be due to procedure related complications like collapse of the lung, pleuritis, inadequate analgesia. What I think you must try to Breath deeply as hard as you can so that your lung gets fully expanded or else you may ask for incentive spirometry. Secondly considering a strong family history you must be evaluated for any underlying cardiac abnormality for which you may go for stress ECG and echocardiography. If infection is suspected antibiotics will help...
