Chest Pain When Sneezing Or Coughing Or Taking Deep Breath

Hi I have chest pains on my left side if my chest. It hurts when I sneeze or cough, occasionally when I stretch or lean back and occasionally when I takes deep breath depending on how I am positioned. I have had this pain for about a week now. The pain increases substantially when pressure is applied but I do not cough when there is pressure. Also the pain is localized to around my nipple.

Hello dear,

Chest pain can be caused by various reasons, including minor problem such as indigestion or stress, to serious medical emergencies such as a heart attack.

The symptoms as mentioned in your post suggest that it might be due to Infection/Pathology of left lung.
So, investigations like X ray and Pulmonary function test can clinch the diagnosis.

Other causes of chest pain include:
1. Costochondritis (infection/inflammation of the bone-cartilage junction)
2. Strained chest muscles.
3. Short-term, sudden anxiety with rapid breathing
4. Pain from the digestive tract, such as esophageal reflux

So, it will be better to consult a Doctor & get a physical examination done to rule out other causes. So that proper management steps could be taken.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Thanks & take care.

Welcome to HCM.
Pain increases with movement, coughing and sneezing is most likely due to muscle stretching.Avoid unnecessary movement.Try to avoid improper sitting, standing and sleeping position.
Start nsaid with muscle relaxant.Apply local nsaid gel.Therapeutic dose of b12 will be helpful. If pain is increasing than go for intramuscular nsaid injections.
Also treat the coughing and sneezing.
Consult your doctor for proper line of medical management.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Your history suggests the problem may be due to musculoskeletal pain. You can apply local pain killer spray like diclofenac and take NSAID with muscle relaxant (I prefer Aceclofenac + chlorzoxazone). Have adequate regular sleep, plenty of fluids, nutritious diet with required calorie and regular outdoor exercises. If it does not subside get one X ray chest and ECG just to rule out other cause. Hope I answered your question. Consult your doctor for further management.
Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries or doubts and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wish you good health. Take care.
