I went to an urgent care facility and was given a chest x-ray. The Doctor told me I had a dense left upper lobe opacity resembling pneumonia. she instructed me to follow up with my family doctor as well as another x-ray after I finished my antibiotics. She said it looked mass like and wasn t sure if it was pneumonia or a tumor. I had my family doctor and a radiologist look at the x-ray and both said it resembled Pneumonia. The radiologist thinks it looks like pneumonia along the lung fissure on an angle making it look mass like. I was told that it is not common to have pneumonia in the left upper lobe which really worries me. I have been coughing up mucus, yellow in color. I m a 33 year old female non-smoker. Should I be worried? My boyfriend is just getting over a nasty cold and was coughing up the same type of mucus.
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion you should continue with the antibiotics and other supportive medicines and get done repeat check x ray after course of antibiotics. About left upper lobe pneumonia, it is not common site for bacterial pneumonia. TB bacilli has affection for upper lobes so TB must be rule out. Send sputum for AFB and sputum culture and sensitivity for antibiotics guidance. Since you are young (33) and nonsmoker, malignancy is very remote possibility. I would advice you to under go CT scan if your check x ray after antibiotics is not showing improvement.
