Child. Positive Result For Creative Protein, T I C Of Blood More Than Normal Limit With RBC Hypochromic With Mild Anisopoikilocytosis. Possible Cancer?

respected sir,
my niece is suffering with fever and cough since last few days, she is 4.5 years old. local physican asked me to carry-out C.B.C & c-creative protein testing with x-rays examination, after observation, creative protein was found positve for the test, while T.I.C of blood was found14,600 cells/cu mm. i.e. more than normal limit,
with r.b.c's mildly hypochromic with mild anisopoikilocytosis, rest everything was found normal, sir plz tell me, may it be either tuberculosis or cancer or general infection. what medication is to be done in case. plz suggest me.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi I am Dr.kadhir,

At first i would like to reassure that these results are more suggestive of an infection.

She has anemia (probably iron deficiency) but i need to know the hemoglobin value and peripheral smear report to comment more on this. Anemia is more common in kids and they usually respond well to iron supplementation.

Her slightly raised total counts and positive c reactive protein are more suggestive of bacterial infection which responds well to antibiotics.

It would still suggest a pediatrician opinion, as it is easy to derive a diagnosis by examining her, thereby to treat her appropriately. I hope that i have cleared your doubts.

Thank you for the consultation in health care magic.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

High WBC count, positive CRP are suggestive of bacterial infection and with correlation of her symptoms it looks like an upper respiratory tract infection.

But other focal infection such as pneumonia and urine infection has to be ruled out by seeing her X ray chest and complete urine examination.

By seeing CBP, CRP we cant diagnose tuberculosis or cancer and so nothing to worry about them.

A course of antibiotic is required to treat the infection.

So consult the pediatrician for examination and for specific treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
