Child Does Not Blink Right Eye, Nose And Mouth Drooping. Possible Diagnosis?
Our son and daughter-in-law s newborn opens and closes both eyes but does not blink rt eye. Rt side of nose and mouth slightly droop. She was born after a long induced labor in the UK. Doctors who looked at her after birth did not appear to be concerned. Return appointment made to see her in 6 weeks. What is the possible diagnosis/ prognosis for this? Should they be seeking another evaluation or is it safe to wait?
Hi, a long induced labor with forceful extraction of the baby can cause injury to the facial nerve resulting in facial palsy. Most cases resolve spontaneously with no residual problems. If you have noticed any improvement in the baby's ability to maintain the facial expressions, she would probably recover. Do remember that majority of these cases dont have any identifiable cause. Wait for the appointment and wishing your baby a speedy recovery.
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic Forum,
That actually doesn't sound very good. He must be having some weakness of the right side of the face. Its wise to get him evaluated by a neonatologist at the earliest. Take Care.
