Child Has A Bump On Head. Suffering From Headache. No Head Injury. How To Treat?

My five year old daughter has a knot on the lower back part of her head and is complaining of a headache but she has not had any type of head injury nor has she fallen and bumped it or anything like that she just started complaining about it today and I just noticed the bump today but she has complained about her head hurting all day

Hi and thanks for the query,
It is important to be very sure that the bump has not been there before. If it is actually the case, it might be possible that she had a head injury sometime back which was never reported. A clinical examination shall be very appropriate to actually elucidate other signs pointing towards trauma.
That being the case, it shall be worthwhile to watch out for signs of intracranial hypertension. Intense generalized headaches more frequent in the early hours of the morning, nausea and jet like vomiting, blurred vision, weakness of any part of the body, fits or language difficulties should give a very strong alert. Watching for other general signs like fever and a general physical examination excluded an infectious origin of the headache.
However, I suggest a detailed history and physical examination by your emergency room physician, an a CT scan scan, depending on the case might be appropriate to be on the safe side.
