Child Has Acne. On Clindamycin. Suffers A Scar On His Back. Is The Treatment Worth Going On?

My son has just been prescribed Clindamycin for his acne on his back. It is quiet severe however he only suffers from acne on his back and not his face. There is already some scaring on his back.I am concerned that this is to strong a medication. My son has been on other antibiotics for his skin which made only a small difference.Do you think this treatment is worth going on.

Welcome to HCM.
Acne can be triggered by:
Hormonal changes related to menstrual periods, pregnancy, birth control pills, or stress.
Greasy or oily cosmetic and hair products.
Certain drugs (such as steroids, testosterone, estrogen, and phenytoin).
High levels of humidity and sweating.
In young age it is most likely due to hormonal changes.Treatment you are taking is absolutely perfect,it is not strong medicine.
Keep in touch with your doctor.

Dermatologist Dr. Neera Kataria's  Response
Hi, thanks for posting your query.

Your son has probably been prescribed oral clindamycin for acne on back that is why you are so concerned. Clindamycin is most widely prescribed as a topical antibiotic. It has relatively few reported adverse effects.

The doctor who has prescribed it must have kept in mind the side effects before prescribing it. It can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. You may start taking it as prescribed and if you notice any side effect you may immediately report to your doctor.

I hope this solves your query.

Take care.
