Child Has Amoebiasis. Is There An Effective Medicine?
Hi Doctor, My 14 year old Daughter is infected with amoebiasis, most doctors told me that there is no medicine to completely remove the disease, and I was hoping that you could enlighten me and tell me what to do and what is needed to me done. Is there a much effective medicine my daughter can take? Hoping to hear from you soon.
Hi, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic, Amoebiasis is common parasitic infection due to contaminated food or water. There are good medicine available to treat this disease but prevention is very important Wash hands thoroughly with soap and hot running water for at least 10 seconds after using the toilet. Avoid raw vegetables when in endemic areas, as they may have been fertilized using human feces.Boil water or treat with iodine tablets. Avoid eating street foods especially in public places where others are sharing sauces in one container Commonly used drugs are Metronidazole, Tinidazole, Secnidazole or Ornidazole, Amoebae remain in the intestine when tissue invasion occurs, diloxanide furoate and paromomycin. Hope this information helps. Take care. Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.

Hi,
Amebiasis is an infection of the intestines caused by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica .
Treatment depends on the severity of infection.
Amoebiasis is 100% treatable disease and specific antibiotics such as metronidazole or nitazoxanide may be used for treatment under doctor's prescription.
After treatment, the stool should be rechecked to make sure that the infection has been cleared.
Regards.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
There are effective medicines to treat amoebiasis. Please consult your doctor for the same. If there are recurrent infections then preventive measures are important. Eating out can cause recurrent infections. Even contaminated water can be responsible for infection. Food handlers should be treated to prevent transmission of disease.
