Child Has Bulge In Right External Jugular When Strained. Skinny. Had VSD. Suggestions?
My son who is eight yrs has two small (maybe 1/2 cm) areas in his right external jugular that bulge with strain or exercise. It's been that way for at least a few years, possibly since he was born, but we only noticed once he was old enough to start doing sit-ups and push-ups, etc. He was born with a VSD that closed by age two. No health issues that we know of but he is small and skinny for his age. About 48 inches tall and weighs about 50 lbs. Just concerned... Thank you for any info!
These are the positions of valves inside the vein, and their dilatation during crying or straining is normal and needs no treatment at all. You should rest easy on this account.
Also, I guess you might want your child to look heavier, but his weight for age is normal and his height too is quite okay.
