Hi
Thanks for your query to Health Care Magic
Head injuries are broadly divided into 3 categories:
1. Superficial
soft tissue injuries of scalp
2. Skull fracture
3. Brain Injuries
Kindly note that all, even severe, scalp/skull injuries are not necessarily associated with brain injuries. Conversely, serious brain injuries may develop without evidence of external injuries or skull fractures. Hence it is important to watch for signs of brain injuries like
unconsciousness, seizures, unequal pupil size, abnormal behavior, facial bleedings, vomiting and headache for more than 24 hrs.
Concussion is brief period of unconsciousness for few seconds/minutes that occur immediately after trauma, may be associated with amnesia. It is result of sudden brain movement and temporary failure of axon conduction
Generally the prognosis of concussion is good, a concussion lasting for more than 30 minutes or followed by neurological deficit on recovery indicates
brain injury. Repeated concussion injuries can cause permanent
brain damage.
In your son’s case, good thing is that CT scan is normal. Regarding forehead twitching, little twitching after a concussion is fine, it should ideally wave off in sometime but pediatric or neurological supervision is very important.
Hope that answers your query.
Wishing your son a quick recovery
Take Care :)
