Hello there,

From the symptoms you have mentioned, it is definite that cough is severe and now resulting in vomiting as well.
The vomiting here is "post tussive" which means occuring after a bout of cough. It is important to ascertain the cause of cough here.
If it accompanied with fever and breathing difficulty as well, it could be lower respiratory tract infection requiring a course of antibiotics and anti pyretic medication.
If it is just dry and isolated cough, it needs to be controlled with a cough suppressant. Avoid any cough triggers like cold drinks, candies and ice creams. Encourage sips of warm water to soothe his throat.

Take care.

Pediatrician Dr. Kaushik K Murthy's  Response
hello good evening, your son s sleep is getting disturbed due to cough and the very reason for his vomiting is also because of the cough. what i advice is that , let him sleep at an elevated angle may be 45 deg from his lower back , avoid cold air, carbonated drinks, deep fried food, dust , smoke, he must be around 12 kilos in weight so a cough syrup like benadryl around 5ml given orally can give symptomatic and timely relief. check for fever , throat congestion, difficulty in breathing , change in voice. he ll require a thorough medical examination by a pediatrician as soon as possible. may be an evaluation for GERD may be required
