Dear Sonal, hello.

Before answering your query, I want to know whether your baby was born preterm or premature at the time of delivery?

Children below 5 years tend to develop recurrent infections due to low immunity. If your child has allergy to cold, this frequency increases. As your child has started going to playschool, there are chances that he develop infections more commonly as he comes in contact with other children who may have some infection and is transmitted to your child.

It is good that you maintain hygeine in your home. Try to teach good healthy habits to your child from early age like washing hands before eating in school also. Majority of diseases are prevented just by washing hands before eating food. Also encourage him to drink pure filtered water only. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables also helps in prevention of infections.

And last but not the least vaccinate him fully at appropiate time.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks and happy parenting.

Pediatrician Dr. Nasir Mohammed's  Response
Hello there,
You need to ascertain whether your child is allergic to the common triggers like dust, pollen or perhaps fur of domestic pets. Next is any other member in the household suffering from similar problems ? As the frequency is getting higher, it probably indicates that the condition is getting worse. So your child needs to be evaluated for respiratory tract infection by getting a chest radiograph and complete blood count. If the tests are suggestive of bacterial infection, you child needs to be started on appropriate antibiotics.
Take care.
