Hi,
The duration of immunity provided by the
hepatitis B vaccine varies from person to person. However, it is generally believed that the vaccine provides long-term protection for at least 20-30 years, if not lifelong. It is important to note that getting vaccinated does not guarantee 100% protection against the disease, but it significantly reduces the risk of contracting it.
If your wife has been vaccinated, it is unlikely that she will contract hepatitis B from you. However, it is still recommended to take precautions to avoid transmission. You should use
barrier methods such as condoms during sexual activity to reduce the risk of transmission. Additionally, your wife should get tested regularly to ensure she has not contracted the disease.
When it comes to having a child, the risk of transmission can occur during childbirth if the mother is infected. However, if your wife has been vaccinated and is not infected, there is little to no risk of transmitting the disease to the infant. It is still recommended to take precautions such as getting the infant vaccinated immediately after birth and having regular check-ups to ensure they have not contracted the disease.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
