Child Has Diarrhea, Painful Rash Over Belly And Legs, Runny Nose. What Should Be Done?

My son is 30 months old, he has developed diarrhea , its not the worst he has had, and he makes it to the toilet, his appetite is ok, but he also has a very red rash , not spotty, but it is all over his belly and his legs, at times it hurts him, he also has a runny nose, no fever. A couple of kids at daycare have had diarrhea also, no vomiting ,runny noses too. Should I be worried and take him to the doctor, and what can I do for his rash?

Hi,
Thank you for your query,
It is looking like a viral diarrhea.
You can give sips of oral rehydrating solutions to prevent dehydration.
For cold you can give antihistamine syrup in prescribed dosage and it will work for rash also.
For rash apply calamine containing lotions externally for soothing effect and consult Pediatrician for further examination and specific treatment.

I think your son is suffering from a viral exanthematous fever with diarrhoea.
Give him a probiotic syrup,zinc syrup and avoid milk,fruits and wheat products.
For the rash apply a lactocalamine lotion thrice daily for 5 days.
Your child should recover in 5 days time.

Hello
All these symptoms with similar history in other kids is suggestive of some viral infection.
Maintain adequate hydration by giving plenty of fluids. Also give him Zinc syrup. This will help in better epithelialisation (regeneration of cells of respiratory, gastrointestinal tract and also in recovery from skin rashes).
Apply some Zinc oxide based cream over the rashes and observe its course over a period.Also observe for signs of dehydration. Most of the viral infection with these symptoms subsides on its own. So no need to worry but it will be better if you consult your doctor for proper evaluation.
If rash increases or there is pimple like lesions in between rashes consult your doctor immediately..
