Child Has Enlarged Thyroid With Cystic Nodule. Can It Be Thyroid Cancer?

Hi my 10 year old recently had a suspected throat infection which cleared up with antibiotics . 3 weeks later she has an enlarged thyroid with an almost 2cm nodule and a smaller cystic nodule. Is is likely that this is thyroiditis or should we be worried about the larger nodule. I understand thyroid cancer is rare but not so rare in children under 10.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic,
Your child seems to have a nodular goitre which is common around pubertal age.
But evaluation is required to assess the thyroid function with T3,T4, and TSH, ultrasound of the thyroid to know the type of swelling.
Dont worry about thyroid cancer as it is very rare.
Consult your Pediatrician for further evaluation and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification in future please feel free to consult me.
Regards.
