Hello Doctor, My 16 month old daughter is suffering from fever (102 F) and cold for the last 4 days. I ve consulted a Paed and he has prescribed the following medicine: 1. Ibugesic plus 2. Lebosabutamol syrup (Levolin) 3. Levocetrizine syrup (Montral) Her fever relapses every 6 -7 hours in a day and subsides after taking ibugesic plus. Please guide me on her health. Regards, Samrat

Pediatrician, Critical Care 's  Response
Dear Mr Samrat

I am hoping she is taking orally well, passing good amount of urine and not vomiting.

From the symptoms described, it appears she has got respiratory tract infection, commonly due to viruses in this season.

It takes couple of days for infection and fever to subside. Treatment prescribed by your doctor seems appropriate.

If however
1. Fever doesn't subside
2. She is very lethargic and not interested in anything
3. Vomiting a lot
4. Not passing urine for 6-8 hours
5. Breathing very fast

In this situation, you will have to get her checked over by Pediatrician.

Please continue the current treatment and encourage enough oral fluids while she is suffering from respiratory infection.

Wish her a speedy recovery

Pediatric Hemato-Oncologist Dr. Dr. Amit Kumar's  Response
hello samrat,

this seems to be a viral respiratory infection with reactive airway (congestion) and it should take another 5 -7 days to get well. congestion is not uncommon to have this with viral infections.

if the condition is otherwise stable you should not worry much about the recurring fever, as it may take another few days to subside.

the most important thing you have to be watchful for would be any kind of respiratory difficulty despite being given levosalbutamol. in such case you should get an urgent evaluation of your daughter.

few other danger signs would be excessive lethargy or irritability, high fever not responding to regular anti pyretics and refusal to feed.

so rest assured and follow up as scheduled by your pediatrician.
wish her speedy recovery

Ayurveda Specialist Dr. Sagar Mhatre's  Response
hello , Samrat

You have already consult with your doctor. So no need to worry.

If temperature is below 38 C/102 F , its most probably viral infection , even some time viral infection also reached upto 102 F,

> 102 f Temperature indicated bacterial infection. And it need appropriate Antibiotic.

Some time viral fever takes 5 to 6 days to settle,

I would Advice:
1.Take medicine which already proscribed your doctor.
2.If Fever is not subside, you should get her evaluated once for her complaint to get her examined
physically by a pediatrician.
3.If necessary do investigation,( Fever profile )
4.Keep your baby Hydrate (Sugar 4 tsf+ salt 1/2 tsf+ 1/2 liter water, Fresh fruit juice, coconut water
etc )
5.Cold sponging.

Thanks
I wish your child recover soon
